Remember the one with the glasses?
THEY started as a choir.
And they went on to become some of the best known faces on TV - and the only performers to appear in every one of Jack Good''s smash hit Oh Boy series.
The Vernons Girls, formed from staff at Vernons Pools of Liverpool, started out singing at old folk''s homes and local venues.
Good spotted them when he was producing the BBC''s Six Five Special Saturday night teen show on which they soon became a success.
It was on Oh Boy, however that they really became well known - and in particular it was "the one with the glasses" - Maggie Stredder - who became a favourite with the young male population. Who said in those days that men did not want to make passes at girls in glasses?
Besides TV work the girls also acted as backing singers for stars of the day before disbanding in the early Sixties.
Some continued in small groups, one of which was the Ladybirds.
Two original Vernons girls and an ex-Ladybird are regularly still seen on tour today with a Fifties rock show.
